Using Grant Funding for Ruvna Implementation

Securing the safety of students and staff has never been more critical.

But for many schools, the challenge lies in finding the funds to implement comprehensive safety systems. While the need for security is clear, navigating complex grant application processes can feel overwhelming.

Fortunately, there are several funding options that help make critical security upgrades, including implementing Ruvna’s integrated school safety and operations platform.

Funding Options for School Safety

Schools, especially those with nonprofit status or specific safety needs, have several grant opportunities they can leverage to enhance their security infrastructure. Here are some of the key grant programs available:

Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP): Provides up to $200,000 per location for physical security enhancements, including emergency systems like Ruvna. FEMA recently announced a new grant opportunity on October 28, 2024, with $210 million available from recent government funding focused on security. Now, groups (or "consortia") of nonprofit organizations can also apply for this funding. For deadlines and more info, see FEMA’s website.

COPS School Violence Prevention Program (SVPP): Helps schools invest in training for local law enforcement officers, enhance reunification protocols, deploy visitor management systems, and expedite emergency notifications. SVPP grants are available to both public and private K-12 schools.

BJA STOP School Violence Program: Focuses on preventing violence by funding threat assessment teams, reporting systems, and safety technologies. Eligible schools include both public and nonprofit institutions.

State Homeland Security Program (SHSP): Open to state and local educational institutions, SHSP funds physical security enhancements and emergency notification systems, which can be crucial for improving school safety.

These programs provide schools with the financial support needed to implement advanced safety measures and mitigate risks. Schools that take the time to explore these options can secure the resources necessary to protect their communities. Read more about grant opportunities on Ruvna’s guide to grant funding.

How Schools are Leveraging Grant Funding for Ruvna

The Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia’s successful partnership with Ruvna is a perfect example of how schools can use grant funding to implement integrated safety solutions. After several concerning incidents in the region, including one in which Ruvna enabled the evacuation and accounting of over 300 students in under three minutes, the Federation took decisive action.

By securing grant funding, the Federation was able to bring Ruvna’s all-in-one platform to 22 day schools and preschools, safeguarding over 5,000 students and 1,000 staff members.

The Federation covered the first year’s cost of Ruvna for these schools, underscoring the importance of making these safety systems accessible. For other schools, tapping into the available grant opportunities can make similar advancements in security more attainable.

Navigating the Grant Process

While these funding opportunities are significant, the grant application process can be complex. Most grants require schools to work through state agencies and navigate different eligibility requirements and deadlines.

Schools should approach this process with a clear understanding of their security needs and seek consultation where necessary. Working with platforms like Ruvna, which align with many of the allowable expenses for these grants, can streamline the process. Access the Resources You Need

With multiple funding options available, schools can access the resources they need to enhance safety and emergency preparedness. Grant funding, though complex, provides a crucial opportunity to implement advanced security systems like Ruvna.

Schools that invest in these technologies now are not only ensuring the immediate safety of their students and staff—they are building a foundation for a more secure future.
